What is NetBOM?

A Network Bill of Materials (NetBOM) is a formal record that contains details of network and Internet-connection relationships used by a device or software product. NetBOM is also a cybersecurity architecture that provides automated network security for IoT devices, systems and software.

The name, NetBOM, is a play on the term SBOM which is a software bill of materials. An SBOM is an inventory for software components that make up a software product. This is similar to the list of ingredients that we see on food packaging, except an SBOM lists software components and their versions rather than food ingredients.

While an SBOM informs end users of the software and versions that are running on their devices, a NetBOM informs the end user of the Internet and network servers that the device needs to communicate with.
